Why this will never be a cookbook.

Hello world and welcome to totlosophy!

Look, this blog is not going to turn into an a cookbook, which turns into an Ellen Show appearance, which turns into a movie deal (although some of my favorite blogs are on that track – hello smitten kitchen and young house love). I am not a great writer. So while my thoughts are eloquent when they’re swirling around in my brain, they immediately lose something in the translation. It’s like one of those memes…

Here’s what I do know.  I’m a collector and a connector.

Maybe this stems from growing up a people-pleaser.  I’m always looking for a way to relate, to offer information, to be helpful, to introduce Amazing Person A to Amazing Person B.  Whatever the reasons, these are attributes that I’m now grateful for.  I love anything that makes the world seem like a smaller place where we all belong to one another.

This is where totlosophy fits in.  It’s a personalized stationery company that centers around quotes from children, the tiniest truth-bomb wielding philosophers around, as well as writers and storytellers from my favorite podcasts and blogs.  Actually, everyone we meet has a story to tell, so expect a quote or two from the Dunkin Donuts drive-through lady, or my neighbor down the street. Each one of my cards has a story behind it and this is the space where they will be told.

Hopefully, you will feel comfortable enough to share your own stories, because YOU my friend, are Amazing Person A.

Well, looky there, Diane! Might this be your first blog post, and might this be your first (of many) comments?!?

I am overjoyed for you! Keep writing, I like your style already. Kudos!

Oh I am thrilled to see you have started a blog!!! I LOVE how you describe it:

I mean, this is just genius. I could totally see people hiring to you make a quote card with their grandma’s famous saying or something that has significance to them. I will definitely send people to you. My online community tends to “break” websites when we all click over, so just let me know when you are ready for me to tell all my people about you. I will go back and see if your Etsy page has anything added. I went to Twitter 10 mins ago to write a thank you to you and got completely sidetracked when I found all this wonderful-ness. Anyway, I have my beautiful cards that you made me on display. It took everything in me to actually write in one because I am a saver of beautiful things. I know you gave me multiple cards, but they are all a little different so I want to save them forever. I used ONE to send a thank-you to my mom. But she saves all her cards so I knew I would be getting it back someday, so that was fine. You have such a talent and it thrills my heart to see my words (and my nephew Sam’s words) on such a lovely card! Honestly, this could get really big!!! See, I mourn words when my children don’t say them anymore (and I have found other people do too!). I cried when Avery began saying “thunder.” Because there would never be another Funder Storm again. My nephew Evan used to say, “Hold you all the way,” when he wanted to be picked up (and you had to STAND UP). Last time I was there, I listened for it. It was gone. I reported back to my girls that HOLD YOU ALL THE WAY had been retired. We were all devastated! So in other words, what I think you are doing is PRICELESS. I am here to support you in any way I can. THANK YOU FOR MY CARDS. I will lovingly admire them forever and only send them to people who can truly appreciate their beauty!!!! Love, Rachel

umm, just had to ask google how that made me feel and found this on wikipedia. I think it sums you up nicely:

Ubuntu (/ʊˈbuːntʊ/ uu-boon-tuu; Zulu pronunciation: [ùɓúntʼú])[1][2] is a Nguni Bantu term roughly translating to “human kindness.” It is an idea from the Southern African region which means literally “human-ness,” and is often translated as “humanity toward others,” but is often used in a more philosophical sense to mean “the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity”.[3]

Modest, as ever! All of that eloquence I’ve come to know and love is here. I will be a faithful reader, though it will be at my usual social media snail’s pace. This is lovely!
